INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

Helping Students

Pursue Excellence

PALMETTO CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

P

almetto Christian Academy provides

a liberal arts, college prep education

in a Christian atmosphere where

students are encouraged to find their

individual strengths and use them

for the benefit of the community. In

fact, many of the school’s employees

found their positions when they enrolled their children

at PCA, discovering a learning

environment that welcomes

biblical teaching and fosters kindred spirits among the

faculty and staff.

Sally Pascutti is the

guidance counselor

at Palmetto Christian

Academy. Like so many

mothers, she volunteered in

classrooms before making

the transition into teaching,

working as an English

and English as a second

language instructor. As a

lover of the written word,

she recognized “stories

that have stood the test of

time … include the theme

of redemption,” which

confirmed her Christian

beliefs. An Isle of Palms native, she moved her family back

to the Lowcountry over a decade ago and found Palmetto

Christian Academy to be a perfect fit for her family.

Pascutti helps students “understand work as a

purposeful, valuable, creative service to the larger

community. In an age when people can expect to change

careers at least five times, education is really about

preparing students’ hearts and minds for what their life’s

work will be so that they can do well in whatever situation

the Lord assigns to them.”

Toward that goal, she directs programs including “How

to Make High School Count” discussions, “Christ in the

Marketplace Career Day,” an 11th grade College Focus

class and college tour, and community service.

Christ in the Marketplace showcases professionals who

share with students the details of their professions as well

as “the unique privileges of following Christ in a work

environment.” In College Focus, students prepare college

applications, resumes and essays and also research colleges,

careers and majors. Community service – high school

students perform 20 hours annually – is volunteerism

focused on areas of each student’s potential career.

Interested in teaching? Try it at Vacation Bible School

or summer camps. Love science or engineering? Water

Missions or the South Carolina Aquarium is a good place

to exercise those skills. And for health care, the Seacoast

Dream Center health

clinic, as well as area

hospitals, offer volunteer

spots in the medical field.

Palmetto Christian

graduates are currently

attending a wide variety

of colleges, including

Clemson, College of

Charleston, USC-

Columbia. Wofford,

Furman, UNC-Chapel

Hill, Notre Dame,

Columbia University,

Sewanee, Liberty, Flagler

and Anderson. Clemson

tops the list for the class of 2017, with more than a third

of the class accepting offers there. This year’s graduates

were offered almost $2 million in scholarships, including

seven Palmetto Fellows. Scholarships were earned for

academic merit, Christian ministry, leadership, community

service, military, athletics and fine arts. SAT scores for the

top 25 percent averaged 674 in math and 711 in reading,

with the entire class earning an average of 592 in math and

601 in reading. ACT top 25 percent scores averaged 29,

with the class average being 25.7.
